Project Overview
Project Type: Urban Distribution Network Reinforcement & Commercial Power Supply
Commissioning Date: May 2024
Location: Manchester City Centre, United Kingdom
Client: Regional Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
Application: Dedicated power supply for a newly constructed commercial office complex, replacing aging infrastructure with a high-efficiency, low-noise unit suitable for a dense urban environment.
Technical Solution
TSTYNICE supplied a custom-engineered, high-efficiency 50 kVA, 33 kV / 415-240 V oil-immersed distribution transformer, specifically designed to meet stringent UK DNO standards and urban planning requirements for noise and footprint. The unit was delivered as a complete, pre-wired, and tested package in a single 20-foot shipping container.

Key Design Features
Ultra-Low Noise Design:
Core constructed with low-magnetostriction, laser-scribed, high-permeability silicon steel.
Advanced damping systems between core, windings, and tank to minimize vibration transmission.
Acoustic enclosure integrated into the container design with internal sound-absorbing panels.
Urban & Environmental Suitability:
Compact Containerized Solution: Transformer, LV control panel, HV isolator, and auxiliary systems pre-installed within a weatherproof, walk-in 20ft container. Finished in RAL 7016 (anthracite grey) to blend with urban architecture.
Zero External Footprint: Eliminated the need for separate kiosk construction, saving significant space and planning permission complexity.
Enhanced Safety: Tamper-proof, lockable enclosure with ventilation grilles meeting IP23 rating for outdoor placement.
Compliance & Smart Features:
Full UK Compliance: Designed and tested to ENA Engineering Recommendation P23 (2021), ENA ER G59/3 for grid connection, and BS EN 60076 series.
Integrated Monitoring: Pre-fitted with DNO-compatible RTU for remote monitoring of load, oil temperature, and alarm status (pressure, oil level).
Future-Proofed: LV panel includes provision for Power Quality Monitoring (PQM) device installation and space for future customer metering.
Project Execution
Delivery & Logistics: The complete "plug-and-play" substation was factory assembled, wired, and tested before being loaded into the 20ft container. This minimized on-site work to just foundation placement, cable connection, and commissioning.
Commissioning: On-site work was completed within 3 days, including final ratio/polarity checks, protection relay testing, and DNO witness testing for loss measurements and noise verification.
Documentation: Supplied with a UK CAFM (Common Asset Fault Management) compliant data pack, including BIM (Level 2) models, test certificates, and O&M manuals.
