Project Overview:
Project Type: American-Style Integrated Box Transformer (Grid-Connected Renewable Energy Supporting Type)
Completion Date: Q2 2025
Location: Valle del Cauca Department, Western Colombia (supporting the 80MW distributed photovoltaic power plant cluster in the Cauca River Basin)
Technical Solution:
TSTY supplied 68 sets of American-style box transformers (core model: TSTY-AM1250/34.5), integrated with on-load tap-changer and intelligent grid monitoring module. The product adopts a fully sealed integrated design, deeply matched with the distributed photovoltaic power plants in the region to achieve core functions: medium-low voltage power conversion (34.5kV/0.4kV), grid voltage regulation and stabilization, fault isolation and protection for renewable energy grid connection, and remote operation and maintenance monitoring.
Project Impact:
Upon commissioning, the project achieved:
✓ Compliant with Colombia’s grid connection standards (Resolution CREG 048/2021) and IEEE C57.12.28 American box transformer technical specifications, realizing seamless connection to the Colombian national power grid
✓ Improved the grid connection stability of the 80MW photovoltaic cluster by 40%, reducing grid fluctuation faults caused by renewable energy output volatility by 65%
✓ Annual power transmission efficiency: 98.7%, reducing power loss during medium-low voltage conversion by 12 million kWh (equivalent to saving 4,800 tons of standard coal)
✓ Alleviated voltage deviation issues in the local rural power grid (Valle del Cauca’s mountainous and river basin terrain), improving power supply reliability for 12 nearby towns and 30 agricultural plantations by 18 percentage points
✓ Supported Colombia’s national renewable energy development plan, contributing to the country’s goal of 30% renewable energy power generation by 2030
Key Features:
• Tropical climate-adapted design: Equipped with enhanced ventilation and heat dissipation system, adaptable to Colombia’s high-temperature and high-humidity environment (temperature range: 15°C to 40°C, average annual humidity 70-90%)
• IP65 protection rating: Reinforced waterproof, dustproof, and corrosion-resistant performance, suitable for the Cauca River Basin’s frequent rainfall and mountainous area dust accumulation
• Compliant with Colombia’s CREG (Comisión de Regulación de Energía y Gas) regulations and U.S. ANSI/IEEE standards for American-style box transformers, eligible for national renewable energy project subsidies
• Compact integrated structure: Reduces on-site installation space by 30% compared with traditional transformers, adapting to the photovoltaic plant’s limited land resources in mountainous and river basin areas
• Intelligent monitoring and early warning: Integrated with cloud-based operation and maintenance platform, supporting real-time monitoring of load, temperature, and insulation status, reducing maintenance costs by 25% and extending service life to 25 years
